2-Day Workshop for Reformed Addicts Dec 11
Renewal of Annual Contribution to the Nation's Fight Against Drugs
admin
Sun, 12th Dec 2004 - On weekend of Dec 11th and 12th, RC Pantai Valley carried out the "Speaking Business II" project, in it’s 9th Year of service with Pemadam. Participants are rehabilitated drug addicts attempting, to rebuild their lives. They are from Klang Valley area, as well as Seremban. Approximatedly 60 participants. (photos enclosed)
This project is important because it is difficult for an ex-drug addict to find employment. Their hope for a better future for themselves is by running a business, or performing a trade. Purpose of Project is to help rehabilitated drug addicts plan and execute a business. The 2 day course (9am-5pm) covers a variety of business related subjects, including emphasis on the ability of the participants to present their ideas and business plans. At the end, each participant as part of a team, presented a business plan.
The day started with an opening address by President Michael Foong, followed by a highly inspirational "ucapan" by Timb. Pengarah Dato Hj Mohd Shariff. It was then declared open by Immediate Past District Governor Dr.Mahinder Singh. This event is funded by our Rotary Club and our members, and attended by 24 over Rotarians. This year, for the first time, the Federal Territory’s Pensioners Association are joining in as observers. They include previous head of department s in private service.
This event was covered by NTV7 and Utusan Malaysia
Saturday Morning Opening by: IPDG Mahinder Singh (On behalf of District Governor who was in Bangkok)
Sunday Evening Closing by: Dato Hj Mohd Shariff (Timb. Pengarah Pemadam)
President's Message:
In the 9th year of commitment and service to our nation’s war against Drugs, The Rotary Club of Pantai Valley is honoured to work with Pemadam in the "Speaking Business Workshop II".
Our efforts in the program are for those, who have the great fortune of another opportunity in life. They have arrived at a place where many are still struggling to reach.
In this two-day program for Rehabilitated Drug Addicts (RDA), our objective is to work on "the business of speaking".
The ability to "speak" is important, more so when the RDAs have a story the world needs listen to.
Theirs is a story of human victory over the darkest moments of their life. And it is about a story that will give strength and motivation to those in their personal battle against drug addiction.
In this new chapter of their life, many RDAs have chosen to participate in a trade or a business. This trade is their opportunity of being financially independent. It is the vehicle of their hope of
A better and honourable future for themselves and their loved ones
RC Pantai Valley is honoured to continue their support of such a noble program. It is through witnessing the personal successes of our fellow human beings, that we are rewarded.
Consistent with our club and rotary’s commitments, we believe education to be the ideal vehicle that leads to the hope and a better future. To that end, the Rotary Club of Pantai Valley also has a scholarship program for 10 places for Vocational Diplomas. These scholarships will be awarded within the next month or two. I encourage here who are present to ask our club members or refer to our website for further details and application forms.
As President of one of the largest and most vibrant Rotary clubs in our district, I take this opportunity to recognize the Organising Committee and our Board members for their continued commitment, and being a living example of what it takes to bring out the best in others. It is a great honour for me to be serving our community with them
