Dear President and Rotarians
Yesterday evening, we had great fun giving away food to the homeless at petaling street followed by great food and fellowship in Jalan Alor.
I wish to thank the following Rotarians for their participation, time and support: PP Mohd and Diana, PP Chan Chee Hong and Siew Yong, PP Lawrence and Irene, Lee Siow Hong and Siong Woan and 2 sons, Keng, Michael Foong and Shaun Lee (my guest).
We met at the Kechara Centre in PJ at 4pm to pack the food. Some 500 packets of hot food, bread and jam, biscuits, tooth paste, tooth brush, soap, towel etc was packed to be distributed. We arrive at Petaling Street at 530pm. Credit must go to the efficient organization of Kechara Soup Kitchen as 200 homeless recipients have already formed a que waiting for the food. All of them received their package within some 40 minutes. The leader from Kechara Soup Kitchen, Justin Cheah debriefed us and shared with us their vision to engage beyond just giving food to the homeless. Their vision include relocating, retraining and instilling pride in their life to be independent again.
We also raised RM1100 cash donation as our token of support to Kechara Soup Kitchen: Billie Lim 100, PP Esther Tan 100, PP Chan Chee Hong 100, PP Mohd 100, PP Michael Foong 200, Keng 100, Siow Hong 100, PP Lawrence Tan 100 and myself 200.
Dinner was fantastic all thanks to PP Lawrence Tan for his coordination. There was great laughters and all fun.
Yesterday was a great start to our brand new Rotary Year!
More to come, 'Chit Chat with Teachers' on Saturday August 15th 10am at Chung Hwa School Jalan Gombak. English conversations with teachers to help them practise their english.
Also MOVIE DAY again for us to raise fund for WAO on Sept 16th (tentatively). Rotarian Ailin is working on it. We welcome Rotarians to pledge their commitment to sell 50 tickets (we won't hang you when you don't but we need to set a common target to work towards!)
