COMREL
The US Navy once again concurrently conducted their annual community relations projects in many countries worldwide, and their oldest active warship, USS Kitty Hawk which had been commissioned since 1961, was docked at Port Klang for a few days to allow hundreds of service men and women an opportunity to volunteer themselves for community works in the Klang Valley.
Rtn Ivan Christie continued to represent Rotary Club of Pantai Valley to assist them through months of liaison between the US Embassy and five needy homes for the 2-days community service programme. An average of 20 US Navy volunteers were sent to each of the following homes to help clean, repair, paint the properties and interact with the children, elderly and disabled.

Ten members from Rotary Club of Pantai Valley visited Rumah Amal Kanak-kanak ( or Praise Emmanuel Children’s Home ) at 12pm on 29th August to meet the volunteers as well as learn about the home’s plight from the manager Mr. Christopher Michael. Rtn Lay Yeong had also brought along a box of note books and pens for the home.
Three senior US Navy officers arrived with Rtn Ivan, and after they witnessed the presentation of a gift to him as a token of their appreciation, joined the Rotarians for lunch and fellowship at a nearby Indian restaurant named Lotus. The banana-leaf lunch, which was sponsored by Rtn Peter Ng, was a novelty for our three guests, Captain Thomas Walczyk ( Dentist ), Commander Antonio Cardoso ( Chief Engineer ) and Commander Stephen Pike ( Chaplain ), and they thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
