Report for installation of water filter at the Stepping Stones Living Centre at Taman Seputeh, Kuala Lumpur for Rotary Club of Pantai Valley

On the 2nd May 2007, Rotary Club of Pantai Valley (RCPV) in collaboration with the Fun Stompers have installed a water filter at the Stepping Stones Living Centre for Children at Taman Seputeh, Kuala Lumpur.
The Fun Stompers have contributed for the total cost of the supply and installation of the filter. The Rotary Club of Pantai Valley identified and coordinated the installation of the filter at the suitable community in need.
Our first visit represented by Rotarian James Tan to Stepping Stones Living Centre was on the 27th April 2007. Our visit was well received by the principal of the Stepping Stones, Rev. Dr Nina Rajahser who kindly showed us the suitable location and briefly explained to us about her home of approximately 100 children. The children are mostly orphans.
After the first visit, Rotarian James Tan proceeded to call for quotations from more than 3 suppliers of such water filters. Based on the comparison of the various types and brands available, he chose the ‘Waterco’ brand of micron deep bed filter supplied by the company called ‘Watershoppe’. This filter is encased in a fibre glass body and the filter body consists of graded volcanic fine sand from Australia.
On the 2nd May 2007, Rotarian James Tan showed the plumber to the site at Stepping Stones and the plumber immediately started installation. The installation took half a day. The teenagers in the home were curious and excited with our installation work. They helped the plumber in carrying the material and tools. The plumber then trained a few boys on the maintenance of the filter.
The completion of the Water Filter was well received by the children. Rotary Club of Pantai Valley is pleased with our achievement in providing clean water to the children of Stepping Stones Living Centre in Taman Seputeh, Kuala Lumpur.
