Feeding the Urban Poor at Back Streets of KL April 24
Rotarians walk Chow Kit and Jl Petaling for 100 Hours Community Service Marathon
admin
Subject: 100 HOURS SVC MARATHON (Photos by Michael/Report by PP Sathi to follow)
Note: The food distribution route took us through the back streets of Jl Chow Kit, Jl Petaling, Pudu Raya and Masjid India. We were under strict advice not tp photograph the people. These areas / zones were well filled with drug addicts, prostitutes, mentally ill, vagrants, etc. However enclosed below are some photos before the group of Rotarians started out the service at 10am on Sunday Night (24 April 2005).

MSG FROM PP SATHI ON 100 HOURS SVC MARATHON.
My Dear Rotarians,
Thank you all for the encouragement & support given to me in carrying out this small project.
I am writing this mail to inform you of the important issues you should be aware and prepared for before this Sunday's outing. Pls take note and CALL ME if you require clarification.
DO NOT SEND ME A MAIL as my home PC is whacked out.
Date & Time of Project: Sunday, 24th April 05 at 10.00
pm. [yes u read it right, Sunday nite]
Venue: Our first stop is the back lanes of Chow Kit
Road. Meeting time at 9.45 p.m.
Pls meet at the front entrance of the El-Shaddia
Church located on Jalan Raja Laut. Whereeee?? you ask.
Here is a detailed description (as detailed as I can
get). Get on to Jalan Raja Laut and drive to the
traffic light where Sime Darby building is at the
intersection. Go across the lights, keep to the right
of the road and u will pass the Grand Continental
Hotel and Wisma Cycle & Carrie. After the Wisma is a
turning to your right and immediately after that is
the Munggo Jerry Bak Kut Teh shop at the corner. About
6 doors after the restraunt is a Bank and about 4
doors away after that is thie El-Shaddia Church (1st
Floor) We will meet Pastor Richard and his team at 9.45 p.m at the corridor of the shophouse.
Our second venue will be: the back lanes of Petaling Street area.
Those who were at the Chow Kit area session, will then follow the pastor and we will assemble at a shop lot which is 4 doors away from the big Hindu Temple located on Jalan Tun HS Lee. We will proceed from there.
DOs & DON'Ts
1. Do not carry hand bags
2. Do not wear fancy jewellery
3. Ladies, pls dress in a simple T-Shirt and jeans/pants
4. All Rotarians should try to wear your yellow Rotary jacket. If u do not have one, borrow one from a member
who is not joining us. This is for easy recognition and ease of rescuing u from the police in case u get picked up for soliciting (just joking okay!!)
5.We will move about in gruops of 3 to 4 together with a Kenoses Home staff as our guide.
6. We will be having food packets to be distributed.
7. Whilst walking around do not point at people, make loud and smart remarks. If you see something wierd, vulgur, mind-blowing do not go "Ayiyaaaa.Sei-lohhhhh". Just look and we can 'Sei-loh' when we get out of the area.
8. No Children pls
9. NO CAMERAS pls.(unless u want to donate it to me)
10. We cannot draw too much attention on ourselves.
11. The visit to Petaling Street should be less restrictive.
12. We distribute 200 packs in Chow Kit and 100 in Petaling street.
13. Tea Tarikh fellowship after the distribution.
14. Pls car-pool and travel for the night.
ONCE AGAIN: Sunday, 24th April, 9.45pm at the corridor of the El-Shaddia Church on Jln Raja Laut.
I think I have covered all the critical issues.
Should any of you wish to make a financial contribution to this little project, pls give it to me as I will coordinate the collection and the use of the funds. A full report will be provided at the club after the event.
For any further clarification, pls call Past President Sathi: 012-309 2064.
